History: Alice de Oliveira was born in the countryside, saw the craft she learned from her father as a way of valuing local handicrafts, rescuing traditions and generating income for women in the Guapiara region, in the interior of SP. The work with corn husk is totally handmade and done with the help of a wire needle, creating baskets, dolls and utensils. It all starts well in advance, with choosing the best seeds and preparing the soil for planting, even taking into account the phases of the moon. This entire process is part of the rescue of planting native seeds, which were used by farmers of previous generations and underwent the natural selection of thousands of years, with more resistant grains and less dependent on synthetic substances. “I passed on to the women the techniques I learned at home and today we reap the fruit of our work. This art helps in the empowerment of women and in the continuity of Creole seeds. The artisans' daughters are already interested in their mothers' work. Many already help in the making of the pieces and in the family budget", added the artisan who is now a Master and is part of the Art and Life Association of Women Craftsmen.
